A Day Across Bukidnon

We had to conitnue on with work the next day, this time to the neighboring province of Bukidnon. I have never explored Bukidnon, and my friend tells me there's really nothing much to do there. On the way, I was amazed at the breathtaking landscapes of green fields amidst a mountainous backdrop. After almost 2 hours of travel, we arrived in the capital, Malaybalay.

We got out of the van to go to the toilet and grab a snack. I immediately noticed the cooler temperature in Malaybalay. There were also a lot of students here. Malaybalay looked very laid back, and really reminded me of Session Road in Baguio, without the slopes.

Our destination though was further to the edge of Bukidnon - San Fernando. I'm sure most will not hear about this isolated town. We were here for work, so it's really not a tourist spot. I got to see most of Bukidnon for the day, passing by more rice fields, beautiful mountains and lush valleys.

We finished work, and hurried back to Cagayan de Oro. It was already 5PM when we reached Malaybalay. We decided to pass by the Monastery of the Transfiguration, probably the most popular landmark in Bukidnon.

The monastery was already closed, and so we weren't allowed to go in. Disheartened, we just took pictures of the pyramid shaped church from outside. The surrounding was unbelievably quiet, except for the crickets singing their dusk songs. We got back on the road, and vowed to myself that I would revisit the beautiful monastery. That ended my recently concluded day trip to Bukidnon.

  1. That's it? That's all you can say about Bukidnon? Sigh... I'm going there for a wedding this weekend. Any travel tips? what to see, eat and whatnot???

  2. Haha, yup. Wasn't really there for exploration. So I wasn't able to visit any good spots except the Monastery. I hear the Dole plantation is nice, and they have a restaurant there. But beyond that, I've not heard much about Bukidnon as well. Hope you can share when you get there!

  6. yup, it's not Dole but Del Monte, Dole is in South Cotabato, wonder why Manilenos always associate Bukidnon w/ Dole

you could have gone to Dahilayan adventure park in Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, it's nearer from CdO (about 1.5 hours) and you should try the 840 meter zipline! :) nice blog by the way!
