Wow! W Hong Kong

W Hong Kong has got to be one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The moment you arrive, you get that feeling that this stay would be special. And it was a warm and special welcome indeed.

The W Hotel group prides itself for its out of the box hotel experience. It's probably one of the best designed hotel groups in the world. And the W Hong Kong is definitely one of the best W has to offer.

When we stepped in the elevator, we were mesmerized by the LED screen at its floor. It said, Good Evening. I was waiting for the elevator to speak, but it feels so futuristic being in this cabin.

We arrived in the evening, so the hotel has already transformed into sort of a chill out lounge. As soon as I stepped in to the lobby, the music was pulsating yet subdued. The lights were dim, and it smelled good.  Of course, the decor and furniture were quirky and interesting.

The reception desk had an LED screen as backdrop, with a floral pattern animation. My check in was hassle free. There was even a buffet table with some snacks and drinks for check in guests to take while waiting. The receptionist took note that I was a Starwood Preferred Guest, so I was given a special rate (still high though at P14,000 net).

I was all smiles when we made our way to our room. The elevator lobby was brilliantly designed like a library, with shelves seemingly hiding the elevator doors. The buttons were squeezed in between plaster books. It was ingenious.

Even our hotel room sign was playful. The signs were the inside pages of a book on a shelf. By this time, I was just so excited to open the door and see my room.

And this was what we saw. The first thing that got my attention was the bathroom door, two sliding doors with full mirrors, that acted as both walls and doors for the bathroom. There was an LCD TV by the tub. The LCD TV in the room was hidden by another sliding tinted mirror. And the bed was amazing. We had a great view of Hong Kong Island from our window, which had motorized curtains.

The next day, we had an early lunch since the rate didn't include breakfast. That Mona Lisa painting had eyes that followed you. The restaurant was also playful in design, with several glass cabinets filled with stacked white plates that seem to defy balance.

This golden egg wall had one white egg in the middle. Can you spot it in the picture? The buffet selection was not as extensive, but they were sufficient and more importantly, delicious. There was even a confectionary station, where they had cotton candy and dozens of chocolate and licorice.

But what really makes W Hong Kong special is their rooftop pool, aptly called Wet. The view of both Hong Kong and Kowloon was stunning was here, although he ICC (where Ritz Carlton is located) was kind of blocking a complete panoramic view of Hong Kong Island.

The ICC is the tallest building in Hong Kong to date (110 floors), and even at the 57th floor, the building still looked tall. I looked down and saw how high the tower was. It is certainly not for those with vertigo.

I loved the pool deck at night. The place literally transformed, and its gigantic art mural became more alive with the splash of color from LED lights. High profile poolside events happen regularly here, and I wouldn't wonder why.

The W Hong Kong is definitely one of the best designed hotels I have been to, and it is also leading in best in service. With their Whatever Whenever mantra, the W sets itself a notch higher than its competition. The hotel is for the young at heart, for the creative set, and those who really know the meaning of being jet set. The W must mean WOW. I just can't wait to go back!
