Casa Vallejo and the Hill Station

Located beside the bustling SM City Baguio, Casa Vallejo is one of the oldest hotels in Baguio City. This antique quality is its charm and selling point as well. Opened in 1909, Casa Vallejo is indeed a heritage hotel, that is reminiscent of the American era. In fact, it is already one of the 10 oldest institutions in the Baguio City.

I chose to stay in Casa Vallejo because I was intrigued by this fact that it is one of the oldest hotels in Baguio. But since it calls itself a boutique hotel, I wondered if the renovations have at least modernized the place.

There are 4 room types, the Standard, Deluxe, Honeymoon and Family Rooms. The rooms are very basic, and still feels old despite the fact that it does look renovated. The bath is small, but at least clean and functional.

I only complained about the bed, which was kind of damp when I arrived. I guess the sheets that were placed were not as dry yet. My room was beside the road, and surprisingly it wasn't as noisy. But when I pulled back the curtain, I was literally on display to the pedestrians.

The first thing you'll probably say about this old hotel is that it is haunted. However, Casa Vallejo is a destination in Baguio because of its restaurant - the Hill Station.

Already known as one of the best restaurants in Baguio for years, the Hill Station promises the flavors of old Baguio.

The last time I ate here was 2 years ago. The Steak and Prawn and the Callos were just some of my fond memories of the place, aside from its fantastic yet laid back ambience. I wasn't able to eat lunch but I savored my bacon breakfast with mountain rice and savory scrambled eggs.

Casa Vallejo also houses a theater space (more for indie movies) and an interesting bookstore, Mt. Cloud. It also has a spa which I don't actually recommend because of the road noise.

Casa Vallejo may not have the best accommodations in Baguio City, but its charm and antique indie feel makes it a worthwhile destination. You can opt to have a meal in the Hill Station and experience Casa Vallejo all together in one condensed visit. But if you with to take in old Baguio for a little longer, do spend the night.
