Crimson Resort: Mactan, Cebu

I first visited Crimson when it wasn't opened yet. I passed by Cebu for a meeting and decided to hold it in a resort in Mactan. I was intrigued by some road signs that had the logo of Crimson. We eventually found the resort, but was disappointed to see that it was still closed. We were given a quick tour of the resort instead. After that tour, I made it a point to stay for a night there, when it opens.

And so I did. In fact, I have stayed here twice already since it opened in July 2010. The first one was another attempt to dine after a flight from Davao. I was so tired after that day, that I decided to check in the resort. This wonderful room greeted me.

As my daughter said, it's the best room she has stayed in. Though driven by excitement, I knew what she meant. The rooms were well-appointed and beautifully designed. The bed was heavenly. The bathroom opened up to the entire room.

The next morning, we had breakfast in their main restaurant, Saffron. They didn't have buffet yet, since they had a few guests. The resort was just a week old. Talk about a soft opening. And the rate we got didn't have breakfast anyway.

The pool was obviously the main attraction of the resort. It was at the center of the resort, and had three levels. Bridges connect either side of the pool. Comfortable lounges are scattered all over. I could actually spend an entire day just doing nothing by the poolside.

Moving further, we saw the biggest flaw of Crimson. The beach was manmade and was quite a disappointment. It really looked man made. The beach even looked un-swimmable. The dive shop was located here as well.

Thus, inevitably, we spent the entire day, from 10AM to 4PM beside the pool, ordering a lot of food, drinks and ice cream.

I highly recommend their trio of sorbets, which is served in a belgian chocolate boat. Some of the items on their menu are commendable and also affordable.

All in all, Crimson at first try is satisfactory, though a lot could be improved. The promo/opening rate for their most basic room is P6,500 - thus, the resort is really expensive. There are villas with plunge pools that go for P18,000 and suites that go for P12,000. If they plan to stick to these rates, they better offer exclusivity and top notch service. I still think they are far away from that. Nevertheless, I see a huge potential for the resort. I just hope and pray that the management do their jobs right.
