The Grand Marina Bay Sands Blog: The Sky Park

We were granted a late checkout at 1PM, and decided to head up to the Sky Park. This was one of the top draws for the hotel after all. I kind of regretted staying in the room the whole morning after seeing the  highest infinity pool in the world.

Now this was another spectacle. It was a long pool indeed that perhaps had the most breathtaking views of Singapore. Of course, it may not be suitable for those who are afraid of heights, but I'm assuming it was perfectly safe to swim here.

Now, if you will be staying in Marina Bay, make sure you take your money's worth and swim in this pool. Lounge by its deck and spend an entire afternoon here. I could just imagine watching the sunset from here.

We wanted to eat in a restaurant by a celebrity chef, so we decided to try out Sky on 57th by Singaporean star chef Justin Quek. At first, I wasn't allowed in, since I was wearing shorts. I complained when a Singaporean entered wearing shorts as well and was allowed to enter. Talk about discrimination. Anyway, I needn't complain since after that incident, they welcomed me already.

Of course, the views were amazing as well. There was an outdoor terrace where people probably lounge  during sunset or at night. It was too hot that day though to hang out outside.

It was supposed to be a fine dining restaurant, but I find it more on upscale casual type. The interiors weren't that luxurious, but rather sleek and minimalist modern. And the restaurant was huge as it can seat 240 guests.

Sky on 57th offered intercontinental cuisine and some local favorites such as the Hainanese chicken and Bak Tu Teh. We opted to go for predominantly French food where Justin Quek was known for. The rest of the menu is Asian. We began with this sinful foie gras.

We followed it up with a rocket salad that was very refreshing. It had bits of flower petals as well, reminiscent of the salads in Bohol Bee Farm.

I was quite disappointed with the turnout of my Kurobota, since I was expecting it to be a rolled piece of pork. It came out in two balls, but wrapped in something like a wonton.

We also ordered a penne dish just to try out if the restaurant can produce simple yet delicious dishes. Turned out that it wasn't flavorful at all, and was not as appetizing as the other dishes. We moved on to dessert, and we got a banana fritter (turon) and an Opera cake.

I like the cruchiness of the turon, but it's something I could have tasted better in Manila. The opera cake was normal, nothing special. Hence, my verdict for this meal was quite average, and I was surprised with the results. The prices for the lunch wasn't as expensive as I imagined it to be though. I knew for a fact that the dinner menu is more extragavant.

So, after a long meal, we took shots of the dazzling views the restaurant had to offer. I wanted to stay by the poolside, but we had much more tasks to accomplish that day as we were to leave that night. My last post on the hotel will be on the mall, so stay tuned!

  1. I really wonder how does it feel to be in a swimming pool in the roof top of the building knowing that you are in the heights. I am scared of heights but the pool overlooking the city is something interesting. I wish I could try it someday. Thanks for sharing.
