Aiyanar Beach and Dive Resort

Anilao continues to amaze me with its charming resorts and beautiful sunsets. I couldn't get enough of it, so I make it a point to drive 2 hours to spend a night or two to escape the city. I never knew this dive destination would be my perfect hideaway. This time, I hied off to a new resort, escaped for a night of some peace and quiet. Friends, one of my new favorites, Aiyanar.

Aiyanar is easy to miss, because they have no clear signage. I think there was just a banner that had the resort's name. I had to go on reverse when I passed that small banner. I drove down a steep slope that led to the parking and reception of the resort. It was already night time when I arrived, and it seems that the resort wasn't able to capture my booking. Anyway, they didn't make a fuss out of it, and was quick to give me a room.

As you go down the steps, this is what you see. I knew Aiyanar would be special. It was that kind of resort that actually had a resort feel. It looked grand but understated. As soon as I walked through its wooden steps to my room, I was engulfed with a feeling of home.

The doors of my room opened up to a veranda that had bright yellow chairs. The rooms were basic but you see some effort was put in design. The bathroom is spacious, but looks bare, especially with white lights. The bed was the saviour of the room, as it was so comfortable. It was firm with soft fluffy sheets. Perfect for a good night's sleep - which happened in an instant for me that night.

I woke up in the morning refreshed and was so excited to explore the resort. I opened my curtains and was met with a cheerful view. I began to descend the steps that led to the infinity pool.

I wanted to take a dip, but I realized I was getting hungry. As I got up from the sun lounger by the edge of the pool, I noticed an area that got my blood pumping. Oh yes, it was a sun deck, overlooking the sea in bright orange.

You should have seen my face as I made my way through the dive shop and further down the steps leading to the beach. My smile was priceless. I wanted to stay on the deck the entire day. This place would be perfect for a sunset cocktail.

I took a seat and breathed in the fresh air blowing from the sea. It was sunny yet windy, with just the right amount of cool. Perfect weather if you may describe it. I was already beginning to doze off, so I picked myself up and went back up to the restaurant area.

I was surprised to know that the resort offered full board meals with the rate that you pay of P5,000 per person per night. You can even use all their facilities and non-motorized water sports. The food was mainly Filipino and was above average (at least not bad). They could offer more selections though on their viands.

All in all, I was overly satisfied with Aiyanar. It was a family owned and run resort that took aesthetics and atmosphere into consideration. I still think we can develop better resorts, without having such a high price tag. Aiyanar already fits the bill and would remain one of my top choices in Anilao.
