Morong Beckons
Whenever there's the chance, I go out of town for the weekend. So it's imperative that I get information on the nearest beach getaways from Manila. The list is long, from Nasubgu, Lian, Calatagan, San Juan all in Batangas, to the beaches of Subic and Bataan. Though not as great as the beaches further away from Manila, some places just give me the right dose of sun and sand for a relaxing weekend.
This time, I head out to Morong in Bataan, just outside of the SBMA (Subic). With only less than 3 hours of total travel time, Morong beckons on the call of the explorer. I asked for a place from my friend, and so, we made it through the SBMA, and outside the Morong Gate on the road to Ocean Adventure. The resort was Subic Sweetwater, that was actually more of a beach house than a resort. When I arrived, I was surprised to see that the beach was huge, and long and wide, unlike the beaches in SBMA (All Hands, Dungaree and Camayan). I was expecting a scenery similar to the beaches of SBMA since it was pretty near the base. I thought the beach house was going to be on a small cove with coral sand. It exceeded my expectations.
Subic Sweetwater had a white sand beach on an expansive cove. There are in fact several other resorts on the other parts of the beach. Since it was located on a cove, the water was calm. When one heads for the water, and treads it further for about 100 meters, the sandy floor rises up. There were no sharp rocks or corals on the middle part of the beach, so you could walk on the water for up to 300 meters. It was again like having a huge swimming pool. The water was fresh and had just the right temperature.
What caught me thought was the gorgeous sunset that painted the skies red, orange, pink and purple. It was a mirage of colors, that shifted as the sun continued its descent. The beach was big enough to give some privacy as well. You could walk towards one end of the cove to be met up with smooth boulders that seem to have fallen from the cliffs. There was even a mini waterfall nearby.
All in all, I got to see the tip of the beauty of Morong. I hope to go further into the center of Morong towards Anvaya Cove. The coastal road gives you an idea of what to expect with the other beaches nearby. Morong is a good place to getaway just for a weekend out of busy Manila. And the center of SBMA is just 20 mins. away, so if you want to visit the sights of Subic, then this is an alternative you should consider.
