Villa Athena at Thunderbird Poro Point

A visit up north to La Union usually comes with a stopover in the province's most prestigious resort complex - Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point. With an impressive view of the South China Sea, its notably Greek architecture and design stands out among the rest of resorts in the region.

I called Thunderbird Poro Point heaven in my previous post, and going back for the third time, I began to see that heaven is becoming flawed. Of course, you can blame it on wear and tear, but the quality of materials used to build the resort has finally shown its true colors. Thunderbird Poro Point will soon need refurbishment.

Nevertheless, my third visit to the resort was again unforgettable, because of this house pictured above. Named Villa Athena, this 2-storey accommodation brought about a totally new experience to my already bland visit to Thunderbird.

This villa offers a huge space, at around 250 sqm. This villa is actually a model unit of the villas that are for sale in the Thunderbird Poro Point complex.

It has its own dining table good enough for 6 people. I particularly loved the kitchen counter that acted out as a bar as well beside the entertainment system.

The kitchen was well appointed, to the point that it could be anyone's dream kitchen. You can cook a feast in this kitchen given the space and amenities.

A foyer overlooks to the bright and airy living area. I loved the staircase here, and the glass floor to ceiling windows that scaled each end of the walls.

There are 3 bedrooms in this villa - one downstairs and two upstairs. The one downstairs had a queen sized bed and its own bathroom.

One room upstairs had two single beds and its own bath as well. It also has a small balcony with a view of the golf course.

The master's bedroom was had a queen sized bed, and has a veranda that overlooks the golf course as well.

It had a large bathroom, complete with a vanity and his and hers sinks. The furnishings weren't as luxurious as expected of a 5-star resort as the design was geared more towards a home.

The villas' most surprising feature and probably underused is the roof deck. The bare space was large enough to hold a party for 30 people. I hoped they had placed a jacuzzi and sun lounges here. That would have been perfect.

The roof deck provided a good view of the entire resort, which will eventually be filled up with villas similar to this one, once construction comes in full swing. Villa Athena currently costs P25,000 to rent out for 10 people already. Of course, you can throw a house party here for more than 60 people.

Till then, Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point will remain to look expansive, given the vastness of open space. But with the construction of two new resort buildings near the coastline, Thunderbird will attract more visitors. Better make that trip soon before heaven changes again.

    1. Try calling the resort directly. They really don't publish the villa in the internet. Thanks!
