Exploring El Nido Town

Surprisingly, staying in El Nido town is not a common option amongst travelers. With its ruckus from bars and tour operators, it is a busy district. It is suitable for a day's trip to either dine in one of its restaurants, or for some souvenir shopping. But other than that, there's really nothing much here. It used to be a party place at night, but since Corong Corong and Maremegmeg had its boost, the town is losing its charm.

Here's my take on it. If it's your first time in El Nido, spend your first night here to get acquainted with the entire region. In my case, I decided to spend all of my days here. When you have a car rental or a scooter, it is easier to get around El Nido. Also, I wasn't really into a real vacation. I was here to explore and survey the beaches. Hence, staying in the center became a good option.

To further support my decision, I stayed in one of the better options in El Nido town, Sanse Boutique Hotel. This lovely boutique hotel was quite hard to find as it was tucked behind an Asian lunch spot. As soon as I knew I was in the right place, I grabbed my backpack and was escorted to the reception area.

The reception was a small room made out of bamboo. I was quite worried, since I was expecting a hotel of sorts. At least something bigger. But as soon as I signed on my registration form and was led to the second floor, I had a sigh of relief.

Sanse Boutique Hotel was chic. I felt I was transported immediately away from the hustle. It exuded a serene atmosphere with its white washed walls and welcoming foliage.

I got a Double Room with Garden View, which turned out to be a loft. It opened to the garden area, which was had a small veranda as well. The room was spacious and functional. It had a clean toilet and bath, which is what matters. The room smelled fresh and the sheets were spotless. The room felt homey, which is perhaps it's most salient feature.

I didn't regret spending all of my 3 nights here. The room came with breakfast which was served to you in your room. I loved that the bed was upstairs, because it provided more comfort and privacy for a better sleep.

As I've mentioned, there are several restaurants nearby. There is also a suitable cafe nearby for your coffee fix. Gusto, an ice cream parlor is just by the corner as well.

My best meal in El Nido has got to be this clam chowder. I had it from Angel's Wish. Just ask around and most local would be familiar with it. Their Filipino dishes were also excellent. I recommend having a full lunch here as they also have a view of the beach.

In the end, one cannot deny that El Nido town is vital. Sure, you can get your tours from other areas, but this is where all the action takes place. Plus, you get to support the local community, those who have lived and called El Nido their home. I remember years back that El Nido was a backpacker's paradise. It was free-spirited and carefree.

Now that El Nido is ready to welcome more of the world, let's not forget how it all began. I actually regret not visiting the town before, as it was part of the tour from Miniloc. Most suggested I skip it. Now, I actually feel bad for thinking that way before.

I came to El Nido primarily to experience the town. With the deluge of visitors from all over the world, it is now in its resurgence. I was just sad to see that it was losing its charm. I hope that long standing residents of the area would realize this to act on it quick.

Call them for island tours. They also have standard rooms to offer.
